Week 2024-02
This week I had a busy schedule at work and some minor assignments to solve at home, which included two new integrations to deploy to production and a fridge that needed to be fixed.
At work my time was filled with lots of meetings talking about the next projects for the team, alignments with stakeholders that we’re waiting for the new integrations, and time coding scripts to extract data from the deliveries we’ve done. This was a time that I’d been waiting for some months now, as a software engineer we love to see our work delivering value for the company and helping others save time.
The fridge seems fine after changing some parts, seems like it needed some attention just to be sure that it can work for another 10+ years. It’s always so boring when we need to fix these types of things at home, but everything can be more interesting if you live in a city where you don’t know many people who can recommend technical work for you and don’t where to reach to get this work done. The fact of the matter is that everything is working now and I can focus on other things now.
I’ve not watched much this week, so I’ve put all my efforts into getting my Watch Later playlist back on rails at YouTube. To compensate for that I’d like to share some other content that caught my attention instead:
- Isaac Lyman made a good reflection on Stack Overflow’s blog on “Is software getting worse?". I really enjoyed reading an optimistic view on the subject;
- This is an interview series from 2021 with Linus Torvalds talking all things Linux, Git, Open Source, Free Software, Off-time, and more. I really recommend the reading. Links to part 1 and 2;
- Another probably old but gold content was this episode on Tim Ferris Show Podcast with Terry Crews, we live in a world where men can’t be fragile, and listening to how Crews changed his point of view on masculinity and how he faces adversities was admirable;
- DHH is a controversial figure and I don’t agree with everything he says, but I’ve been facing some challenges at work and his article later last year on “Commit to competence in this coming year” came in a great time, hope this reading helps you too.
Last week I’ve talked about my workouts and how I wanted to improve some numbers this week, looks like I’ve achieved the goal:
- 🚴🏼 Rode 66.79 km in 3h 46m;
- 🚶🏼♂️Walked 20.99 km in 3h 39m.
I’ve done 7 workouts this week and exceeded the average of 1h per workout, seems like a good start to the year for me!
To end the week on an up, this weekend my girlfriend and I have received some friends at home. We cooked some Brazilian food and pasta for them, listened to lots of pagode, and presented them with some places at Londrina that were worth the visit. Years ago I was a man who didn’t give much value to these moments, I’m grateful that I’ve changed.
I’m energized and inspired to begin this next week in something that looks more like a routine and start to solidify some of the efforts that I’ve made in my personal life with my workout routines and some projects at work that I hope to share about here sometime soon.
