  • Goodbye Twitter

    About a year ago I’ve made the decision to leave Twitter. Today I disabled my account and in 30 days it will be gone forever.

    So long, and thanks for all the fish!

  • Celebrating 200 km on a bike this month

    Today I’ve completed 200 km on a bike, this is a great achievement for me and I will celebrate by sharing with you the best photos that I took on last Sunday’s ride.

  • Week 2024-03

    The week started with lots of coffee and a Kafka lag problem. This was resolved only on Wednesday, the solution was to treat some errors and let the consumer do its work with the 20K messages lag. That took the majority of my work hours.

    I’m a bit bored with movies and TV Shows, so I’ve put all my efforts into reading books and articles online. Today I have a mix of blog posts and two YouTube videos to share with all of you:

    • I read the Learn In Public manifesto again, this was a post that got me thinking about blogging since 2020 when I read it the first time and now feel like a good time to read it again. This blog is a place where I will learn in public, more on that in the coming weeks;
    • This was a blog post that was on my reading list for a couple of years and I decided to read it this week. It has a few tips on how to stop procrastinating, things that I’m a professional in. Link to the blog post How to be more productive without forcing yourself;
    • On the hype of the Apple Vision Pro, Apple released a guided tour of the headset, if anyone wants to donate $3499 to review it let me know 😛;
    • I enjoy watching videos about mods on things we use every day, today’s work is on the Playstation 5: Table Edition.

    I thought this week wouldn’t be able to improve on the workout numbers, but surprise surprise:

    • 🚴🏼 Rode 82.32 km in 4h 18m;
    • 🚶🏼‍♂️Walked 27.20 km in 4h 36m.

    This was a bad weather week here in the city where I live, but that wasn’t an excuse for me to not get my workouts done. Again, more than one hour per day. I need to be realistic here and say that I don’t know if next week will be like the past 3 weeks, I will be in my girlfriend’s city and I don’t have decided yet if I will bring my bicycle.

    Hope that I can maintain my focus next week!

  • Week 2024-02

    This week I had a busy schedule at work and some minor assignments to solve at home, which included two new integrations to deploy to production and a fridge that needed to be fixed.

    At work my time was filled with lots of meetings talking about the next projects for the team, alignments with stakeholders that we’re waiting for the new integrations, and time coding scripts to extract data from the deliveries we’ve done. This was a time that I’d been waiting for some months now, as a software engineer we love to see our work delivering value for the company and helping others save time.

    The fridge seems fine after changing some parts, seems like it needed some attention just to be sure that it can work for another 10+ years. It’s always so boring when we need to fix these types of things at home, but everything can be more interesting if you live in a city where you don’t know many people who can recommend technical work for you and don’t where to reach to get this work done. The fact of the matter is that everything is working now and I can focus on other things now.

    I’ve not watched much this week, so I’ve put all my efforts into getting my Watch Later playlist back on rails at YouTube. To compensate for that I’d like to share some other content that caught my attention instead:

    • Isaac Lyman made a good reflection on Stack Overflow’s blog on “Is software getting worse?". I really enjoyed reading an optimistic view on the subject;
    • This is an interview series from 2021 with Linus Torvalds talking all things Linux, Git, Open Source, Free Software, Off-time, and more. I really recommend the reading. Links to part 1 and 2;
    • Another probably old but gold content was this episode on Tim Ferris Show Podcast with Terry Crews, we live in a world where men can’t be fragile, and listening to how Crews changed his point of view on masculinity and how he faces adversities was admirable;
    • DHH is a controversial figure and I don’t agree with everything he says, but I’ve been facing some challenges at work and his article later last year on “Commit to competence in this coming year” came in a great time, hope this reading helps you too.

    Last week I’ve talked about my workouts and how I wanted to improve some numbers this week, looks like I’ve achieved the goal:

    • 🚴🏼 Rode 66.79 km in 3h 46m;
    • 🚶🏼‍♂️Walked 20.99 km in 3h 39m.

    I’ve done 7 workouts this week and exceeded the average of 1h per workout, seems like a good start to the year for me!

    To end the week on an up, this weekend my girlfriend and I have received some friends at home. We cooked some Brazilian food and pasta for them, listened to lots of pagode, and presented them with some places at Londrina that were worth the visit. Years ago I was a man who didn’t give much value to these moments, I’m grateful that I’ve changed.

    I’m energized and inspired to begin this next week in something that looks more like a routine and start to solidify some of the efforts that I’ve made in my personal life with my workout routines and some projects at work that I hope to share about here sometime soon.

  • I’m really enjoying my time riding my bike

    This weekend I will receive some friends at home, so the only time I had to ride was today’s morning. So I put my cycling shoes in and got to ride for a little more than one hour. The weather was really great ☀️

  • Week 2024-01

    I don’t know about you, but I truly enjoy reading what people have done, learned, discovered, or watched during their downtimes, so instead of just reading those posts from other bloggers I enjoy, it’s time to start sharing my perspective through the weeks.

    I will start this report by sharing that January 6th it’s my dating anniversary with my girlfriend, we couldn’t be happier about our first year together.

    The first week of the year was off from work for me, the company I work for gave us this week to recharge and start fresh. So I started the year at a slower pace, by enjoying the company of my girlfriend and her puppies at home (we don’t live together yet). We’ve cooked some food together, watched some movies and TV shows, listened to music and done some walks throughout the city.

    Since last year, we’ve been watching The O.C. together, which is a great teenage show that I recommend to everyone. This week, we reached the season 3 finale episode, and I was shocked by the turns the TV show took. I don’t pretend to give any spoilers here, so watch for yourself 😂.

    This week we also finished From Scratch on Netflix, it’s a TV show based on a book of the same name that tells a real-life drama. I strongly recommend you give it a try if this genre is your thing.

    On the health side of things, I’ve done 4 workouts this week, counting for a total of 3h 46m:

    • Rode 35.25 km in 2h 3m;
    • Walked 7.06 km in 1h 32m.

    Not bad for the first week of the year, but I want to improve these numbers going forward.

    This is the first week I do those reports, so I expect to improve how I write those posts and to increase the number of things I share here.

  • Starting the year on the right cycling shoes

    Today’s ride was more of a shakedown of my bike since I have a new chain for my cassette. PS: If you are an F1 fan you caught the reference.
